What is the general blasting schedule?

Blasting activities will occur between Haines Hwy Mile 14 to 17 in 2022.  Large scale production blasting will begin in April 2022 and continue until June 2022. This blasting will require 2-hour road closures. 

When are blasts scheduled to occur?

Production blasts are scheduled to occur in the morning between 6-8 AM or 8-10 AM. There may be several blasts per week, typically Monday through Saturday. Please see the calendar above and look for signs located along the project that provide time and days for upcoming blasts.

How will this affect traffic?

Production blasts that are held in the morning will require up to 2 hour road closures. During this time, flaggers will hold traffic a safe distance from the blasting area. Small scale blasting will only require 10 minute road closures. There will be signs within the project area that provide info on upcoming road closures.

Prior to a blast, the following will occur:

• Flaggers will begin to hold traffic at the scheduled road closure time.
• The area will be cleared by our Blaster in Charge prior to beginning the blast procedures.
• There will be a series of long signals from an airhorn five minutes prior to blast
• There will be a series of short signals one minute prior to blast
• After the blast, one long signal will be sound once the Blaster in Charge has determined the site is all-clear.
• The crew will begin clearing the road of debris. Flaggers will release traffic once the roadway is safe.
